Newark Inspection Station to Permanently Close April 11
Inspection Stickers Extended for 3 Months to Allow More Time to Get Vehicles Inspected
TRENTON — The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission’s (NJMVC) Newark Inspection Station, located at 228 Frelinghuysen Ave., will be closing permanently on Saturday, April 11, 2026, to enable the construction of a brand-new, expanded, and modernized Newark Agency.
To reduce the impact of the closure, the NJMVC is automatically extending the expiration date of any valid vehicle inspection sticker that is expiring between April 2026 and July 2026 for three (3) months. This will give affected motorists more time to get their vehicles inspected either at a state or private facility.
The inspection sticker extensions are as follows:
•
April stickers are extended to July
• May stickers are extended to August
•
June stickers are extended to September
•
July stickers are extended to October
With Newark’s closure, customers are encouraged to use these alternative state inspection stations:
