New Jersey Cottage Food Operator's Permit
A Cottage Food Operator’s Permit allows you to sell certain homemade foods that don’t need time or temperature control to stay safe, directly to customers from your home kitchen.
Step 1: Make Sure Your Food is Allowed
Check that the food you want to sell is on the approved list. Only foods that stay safe at room temperature are allowed under the Cottage Food Permit.
Step 2: Gather What You Need
Before you apply, have these ready:
- Approval from your local zoning board
- A food protection manager certificate
- Proof that your kitchen has safe water (a water bill or well test)
Step 3: Apply for Your Permit
Once you have everything ready:
- Fill out the application form
- Complete a product questionnaire for each item
- Pay the $100 fee
- Submit everything by email
