New Jersey Cottage Food Operator's Permit
A Cottage Food Operator’s Permit allows you to sell certain homemade foods that don’t need time or temperature control to stay safe, directly to customers from your home kitchen.
Step 1: Make Sure Your Food is Allowed
Check that the food you want to sell is on the approved list. Only foods that stay safe at room temperature are allowed under the Cottage Food Permit.
Important
- Don't see your product on the approved list? Check your options.
- Want to sell hot or refrigerated food, open a retail food establishment, or run a catering business? Contact your local health department.
- If you want to sell products to stores or supermarkets, see wholesale food license requirements.
